On February 4, 2022 at 6:20am, I reached the top of Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa, and one of the 7 peaks in the world. Uhuru peak at 5,895 meters above the sea.
My expedition to Kili had two objectives, to reach the top and to photograph the Milky Way on the mountain. I accomplished both.
I had planned for 6 days, reaching the summit on the 5th day and descending on the 6th. But after day 2 and at high altitude my body was fine, I did not experience altitude discomfort and decided to push to the summit at midnight starting on the 4th day. Reaching the highest point a day early.
I was not alone on this adventure, a team of 5 people went with me and we gave the last push together.
Part of the challenge was carrying 2 cameras and a pair of lenses in my backpack, every meter I went up, the equipment became heavier. And while we were at the top, a camera froze 😂
The last stretch was a difficult climb, stopping only to control my breathing, drink some hot tea and to rest for a few minutes.
I thought constantly about going back, but I focused one step at a time, and there was it was, the summit!
